So now that you have your web hosting account, your own domain name, email addresses that end in @yourdomain, and a professionally installed version of WordPress (thanks to FreeBlogInstalls.com!), what do you do now?
While installing and configuring WordPress is the hardest step in getting your own blog set up, your journey is far from over. Like any other software, WordPress takes some time to learn.
Obviously, there is the blog content, or posts, you will write. But there are also pages and links, photos and videos you want to add, comments to manage, plugins to enable and configure, themes to test, maybe a user or two to create, and any number of other things you have been dreaming of!
Some of these options may be more important to you than others, but they all take time to learn. The WordPress community is immense and there are nearly unlimited resources available on the Internet for free.
One of the best places to start, however, is at the source. The WordPress.org web site has an enormous collection of helpful content for WordPress newbies.
Here is a brief list WordPress.org starting points:
- First Steps with WordPress
- The New to WordPress FAQ
- WordPress Lessons
- Getting Started with WordPress
- WordPress Support Forums
If you run into a particular problem and can’t find a good answer from these sources, simply search for it in your search engine of choice and you will probably find an answer.
Feel free to click around the administration panel of your blog to see what is possible, but be sure to understand what you are doing if you start making changes to anything that falls under the heading of “Settings” or “Options” without knowing what you are getting yourself into.
Good luck and have fun!
