While installing and configuring WordPress is the hardest step in getting your own blog set up, your journey is far from over.  Like any other software, WordPress takes some time to learn.

Obviously, there is the blog content, or posts, you will write.  But there are also pages and links, photos and videos you want to add, comments to manage, plugins to enable and configure, themes to test, maybe a user or two to create, and any number of other things you have been dreaming of!

Some of these options may be more important to you than others, but they all take time to learn.  The WordPress community is immense and there are nearly unlimited resources available on the Internet for free.

One of the best places to start, however, is at the source.  The WordPress.org web site has an enormous collection of helpful content for WordPress newbies.

What is a blog?  What does “blog” stand for?  Where did the word “blog” come from?  A blog is a particular type of web site with regular entries of commentary, descriptions of events, or other material sorted in chronological order. Many blogs provide commentary or news on a particular subject and others are a personal online diary.

The word “blog” evolved from the term “weblog.”  The practice started in the mid-nineties and the term was coined in 1997.  It wasn’t until a few years later when the tools that made blogging easier emerged that the practice took off.
